Arborphone Radio

This website was created to show off my Arborphone radios that I have collected, researched and restored. Arborphone radios were manufactured by Machine Specialty Co. in Ann Arbor, MI mid to about 1925 to 1929. History of the company has been documented by others and can be found by searching the web.

I have only been working with antique radios for three or four years. I enjoy antiques, woodworking and have a degree in electrical engineering. Working with antique radios allows me to mix these interests into one hobby.

A few years ago I started making radios using antique parts. After building a couple of radios from the Alfred Morgan books, I began constructing radios of my own design. I would find an unusual looking part(s) and design a radio around them.  While searching for radio parts in a local radio shop I stumbled onto an Arborphone radio. This shop called Purchase Radio located in Ann Arbor, MI was an anachronism in the 21st century. The first thing I bought there was a #30 tube that was still in the original box. On a shelf near the ceiling above the door they had old radios for sale on consignment. One was an Arborphone 27. I did not buy the radio but I was intrigued about the brand because it was part of the local history.

I began researching the Arborphone brand and found some information but not a lot. Collectors do not seem to be interested much in these radios. I started to collect Arborphones.

At the top of this page are links to pages that have information about each radio I have acquired along with some advertisements and articles from the 20s. I will be adding more links as I document the radios that I have.
